My question: If User-A uses User-B's video clips without permission should YouTube interfere and referee? Currently the only real option is the dmca which very well could be illegal. Your thoughts? Whatever the appropriate legal recourse turns out to be -- filing a DMCA claim, suing for libel, suing for slander -- somebody, YouTube or the civil courts, has to weigh the evidence and make a judgment.
Isn't that an incredible burden? Technology has multiplied the opportunities for these disputes without increasing our ability to deal with them. Good video, Victor.

I understand your emotional attachment to this situation and YouTube. I am also glad that you make videos because they are certainly unique. Unfortunately I think anyone with "world experience" recognizes that as a species and on the whole our species is rather childish. Its ok though, beyond that recognition it makes the people that you associate with that much more "valuable" (for lack of a better word). Victor, you are weird but entertaining! In a civil suit you sue to be made whole. Why you may have a right to your image unless you can prove damage, you're wasting resources, time, and money i.e. a frivolous suit. Try being clever next time you want to piss someone off.

It is out of control. I've actually talked about this before -- with passion and real annoyance anger... but nowadays I just bring it up. And I hope we stop dmca'ing each other.

I think it is simply because YouTube does not provide those tools. If they did give you a button to CLICK HEAR FOR SLANDER and CLICK HERE FOR LIBEL most users (hopefully) would understand that the DMCA is not their best option.

The DMCA crap is out of control. People are just filing DMCA even when they have no copyrights being violated. This whole mess is silly. On the flip side, I am glad you are talking about all this. That is what we need more people talking on this subject to bring more light on it. Peace.

Hope you are enjoying your stay in the US. I'm a fairly new subscriber to you and I have got to say, this video is so helpful to me. I had a video taken down for DMCA because it was a remix of someone elses video on youtube. Heck, it wasn't even on youtube anymore the person took it down. But, not worth filing a counter notice for but I never knew that you could even do so. Thank you so much man!
